Cymbals are an essential component of a drum set. Generally, every basic drum set has at least one Hi hat (or charleston) and a Ride, and almost immediately every beginner tries to also acquire a Crash. However, the number of cymbals depends on the genre you play and your preferred style, and it's not uncommon to find drummers with a cymbal set that easily exceeds 7 pieces, especially in certain genres and if there's someone else to mount and transport them!

Besides the already mentioned cymbals, it's possible to add to the set more than one Splash, the distinctive sound of the China, and other duplicates of Ride and Crash differentiated by different diameters, thus capable of producing a different sonic nuance.
