Clarinets

The mouthpiece is the part that rests on the lower lip, where the reed is positioned, and it locks with the upper incisors. It is an important component because, as mentioned earlier, it contributes to the creation of sound. Investing in a good mouthpiece can make a difference by improving both the sound and the feeling due to the pressure of our mouth. Check if there's something suitable for you among the selection of Vandoren mouthpieces available in our online store. If you are looking for reeds, take a look at the dedicated category called Reeds for wind instruments.

The clarinet is an instrument that belongs to the woodwind family, not because it actually reflects the material it's made of, namely wood (although some models are also made of resin), but because it is played by pressing a wooden reed against the mouthpiece with the lip. The reed vibrating as the air passes through it contributes to the characteristic sound of the clarinet.

This instrument is widely used in woodwind ensembles, orchestras, and even in solo concerts. It was one of the main instruments in Dixieland music and made famous in the swing era by Benny Goodman.
